PRESS RELEASE: LT. GOVERNOR OF ALBERTA ARTS AWARDS IN BATTLE RIVER REGION

THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF ALBERTA

ARTS AWARDS IN BATTLE RIVER 2019

PRESS RELEASE

November 2017

The Battle River Group has been chosen for the honor of hosting the
Lieutenant Governor of Alberta 2019 Distinguished Artist Awards.

The announcement was made by Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation at the September 23, 2017 event held at Banff Centre, that recognized 2017 Distinguished Artists John Estacio, Alex Janvier, and Alice Major.

The Battle River Group's approach to the Awards celebration as a region-wide, creative event inspired by the land, its seasons, first peoples' perspective - and informed by precontract through settler history -represents a novel collaboration for hosting the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Awards.

The Battle River region will be the eighth Alberta community to host the awards since their inception in 2003. Every two years, the Foundation honours Distinguished Artists with awards of $30,000. In alternate years, $10,000 Emerging Artist Awards are given.
